Gold Coins and the Greedy Man

Image
Sam was a selfish and greedy man. He always wanted more money. He paid his workers very little and never helped anyone. One day, Sam lost a small bag. It had  50 gold coins  in it. He searched everywhere but couldn’t find it. His friends and neighbours also helped, but the bag was missing. Two days later, the daughter of one of Sam’s workers found a bag. She showed it to her father. He opened the bag and saw 50 gold coins. He knew it belonged to Sam. So, he took the bag to Sam and returned it. Sam was happy to get the bag back. But he wanted more money. So he shouted, “There were  75 coins  in this bag! You gave me only 50! Where are the rest? You stole them!” The poor worker was shocked. He said he was honest. But Sam didn’t listen. He took the matter to court. The judge asked the worker and his daughter how many coins they found. They said, “50 coins.” Then he asked Sam, “How many coins were in your bag?” Sam said, “75 coins, my lord.” The judge thought for a whi...

The Milkmaid and Her Pail

Image
Patty was a milkmaid. One day, she was walking to the market with a pail of milk on her head. As she walked, she started thinking. "I will sell this milk and get some money. With the money, I will buy some chickens. The chickens will lay eggs. I will sell the eggs and get more money." "Then I will buy a new dress and a nice hat. When I go to the market, all the young men will look at me. Polly Shaw will be jealous! I will just smile and toss my head like this." Patty tossed her head—and oh no! The pail of milk fell down. All the milk was gone. She had nothing to sell now. Moral:  Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

When the farmer was a little boy, he loved the apple tree. He played under it and ate its sweet apples. The tree made him very happy. But now the tree was old. It didn’t give apples anymore. So, the farmer thought, “This tree is useless. I will cut it down and use the wood to make furniture.” He picked up his axe and started to chop the tree. Suddenly, many small animals came out of the tree. There were  squirrels, birds, insects , and even a  grasshopper . They all lived in the tree. They cried out, “Please don’t cut the tree! This is our home. We have nowhere else to go.” But the farmer didn’t listen. He lifted his axe again. The squirrel said, “My babies live here. Please don’t destroy our home!” The birds said, “This is our nest. Please don’t cut it!” Still, the farmer didn’t stop. The animals became ...

The Ant and the Dove

Image
One hot day, a little ant was looking for water. She walked and walked. Then she saw a spring of water. But the water was far down. She had to climb a grass stem to reach it. As she climbed, the ant slipped and fell into the water. She could not swim and was about to drown. A kind dove was sitting on a tree nearby. The dove saw the ant in trouble. She picked a big leaf with her beak and dropped it into the water. The ant climbed on the leaf. The leaf floated to dry land. The ant was safe! Just then, a hunter came with a net. He wanted to catch the dove. The ant saw him. She ran and bit his foot. The hunter cried in pain and dropped the net. The dove flew away safely. Moral: A kind act brings another.
